Ecosystem Modeling
& Data Consortium


Launched July 2024

The consortium provides non-exclusive access to models and data to enable rigorous soil carbon and GHG accounting via a shared-access platform.


Our goal is to accelerate the development and improvement of ecosystem models, leverage existing and build new datasets, enable updated and certified model versions, provide training and upskilling opportunities, and foster a space for networking and collaboration.

Consortium Membership Includes:

  • Free membership and access to tools for all academic and research institutions

  • Membership dues for entities that use these tools for commercial purposes

    • Minimum three year membership commitment required for commercial entities

  • Access to annual conference and other educational and training opportunities

  • Custom platform to enable data visualization and downloads

  • Access to data and/or use of models (DayCent®️ and MEMS to start)

  • Learnings from continued model improvements, accelerated by community engagement and dedicated technical support to document model updates and curate data resources

This form is used to gauge interest in the consortium at large as well as in the use of the DayCent model for non-commercial research purposes. We will follow up with appropriate information based on your inquiry.

FAQs

  • Your organization can join the consortium. If you would like to know more about the consortium and how to join, please email us at scsc_consortium@colostate.edu.

  • Research institutions associated with higher education, most non-profit organizations, and government agencies can join at no cost. For commercial entities, the consortium offers a variety of membership levels with access to models, data, or both. For more information about pricing, please email us at scsc_consortium@colostate.edu

  • No, consortium terms of use prohibit sharing the data and models further. Moreover, distribution and sub-licensing are not permitted unless for academic publishing requirements. However, personnel within the same organization can request access to consortium offerings.

  • Yes, you can publish with consortium datasets. Data citations should include, at a minimum, the specific data sources (i.e., the dataset DOI) and authors, the Ecosystem Modeling and Data Consortium website, and the download date. The goal is to acknowledge all scientists and/or organizations that have contributed with data or other products. The citation of the associated peer-reviewed publications is also encouraged. For example, the citation for the ‘Global Soil Carbon Fractions: Managed and Unmanaged Ecosystems’ Dataset would be represented as: Hansen, P.; Even, R.; King, A.; Lavallee, J.; Schipanski, M.; Cotrufo, M.   • Yes, we will offer trainings, including for using ecosystem models like Daycent and MEMS. More information will be sent to consortium members as trainings are scheduled. The next Daycent training is scheduled for January 2025.
